The Perfect Proposal

It was 6 am and one of the most special days of my life was about to begin, “today I am going to propose to my girlfriend”.

We had arrived in Tulum two days ago and we were completely in love with the jungle and the beach, but I wanted something different for my proposal, so I started doing my research to see what are the most special and romantic places in Tulum.

That’s how I found out about the cenotes, these magical and beautiful places that are part of an underground river system with crystal clear waters that the Mayans believe were the entrance to another world.

Its the perfect idea, now I need the perfect tour company to take me to the best Cenote and make this day even more special and most importantly, to make it as private and comfortable as possible. So I told my plan to the concierge of the hotel to see if she could help me. She immediately recommended Bushman Photography, the reason? They offer private tours to the less-visited places of the Riviera Maya, they have high end comfortable 4×4 vehicles to go wherever they want, and most importantly, their guides also are professional photographers that take you to all these places chasing the perfect light for the best pictures.

I booked a private tour with special access to Tulum ruins at sunrise and a cenote, also told them that I was planning to propose.
Next day, our guide Eduardo picked us up at the hotel to visit the ruins at sunrise before they open to the general public. We were the only ones in the whole archeological site! At the beginning, we walked in complete darkness just following the light of Eduardo’s flashlight. Then the dawn started to light up all these magnificent buildings around us and Eduardo started to explain the history of this incredible place and how the Maya used to live in this amazing city by the sea. Then we walk to this small cliff where we saw the most romantic and beautiful sunrise over the Caribbean Sea. Eduardo took incredible photos of that magical moment for us. This special day couldn ́t have started any better.

After visiting the ruins we went to the cenote. When we arrived there, Eduardo approached me and told me where the best places to propose were and that he was going to be waiting for my signal to give us some space and to take all the pictures that he could. We started the tour of the cenote but before we went in, Eduardo explained to us how they were formed and also how special and sacred they still are for a lot of Maya people, all this to make us feel the magic of the place and to set up the perfect mood for what was going to happen later.

We started going down to the cenote and it is even prettier than in the pictures: the cristal clear water, the sounds of nature, the birds flying in and out of the cave, and again we were completely alone. We jump into the water and start walking into this incredible, flooded cave and then I saw it: the perfect place to propose. In this cave, there is an opening in the ceiling that lights up a tree that is growing in the middle of a small island surrounded by light-blue crystal clear waters. It looks like it was taken out of a movie. I did the signal to Eduardo and he gave us space and got ready to take the pictures. Meanwhile, my girlfriend was looking at this beautiful tree. I went behind her, got on my right knee, and took the ring from my pocket. She turned around. When she did, she immediately said yes, she didn ́t even waited for me to ask. It was an incredible experience and the guys of Bushman did an excellent job preparing everything. Of course, the pictures are amazing.
